Designer, Alexandra Von Furstenberg was born in Hong Kong and as a child lived in many places including Europe, Hawaii, and New York. She attended the Parsons School of Design and Brown University, where she studied costume design and art history. In 1995, Alexandra joined the design team of her mother-in-law, American fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg. During her ten-year career at DVF as Creative Director and later as Director of Image, Alexandra was instrumental in the re-launch of the iconic wrap dress as well as reinforcing the relevance of this American brand.
After relocating to Los Angeles in 2006, Alexandra focused on designing exclusively for the home. A synthesis of art, home furnishings and fashion, the collection consists of signed, limited edition pieces made out of acrylic – a nod to the 1970;s and an era of when acrylic was widely regarded as the material of the future, and designers like Charles Hollis Jones pioneered the way for acrylic to be more widely used to make modern furniture for the home.
She began with 8 sleek pieces inspired by her personal motto that she lives by, “Fearless”. It consists of acrylic desks, dining, cocktail tables, and end tables. The designs were named in honor of another one of her inspirations – the faceted cuts of diamonds (i.e. “Brilliant” “Trillion). These beautiful gem-like pieces are illuminated with neon colors.
Alexandra’s other inspiration, “Voltage”, is made of mirror and smoke colored acrylic. Currently there are 9 pieces plus accessories. She describes them as “sultry, bold and strong”. For Alexandra, choosing a darker, smokier color palette was a natural evolution from the bright, pop aesthetic she embraced with Fearless.
Accent, is Alexandra Von Furstenberg's accessory collection which consists of trays, bowls, coasters, and will have many more exciting tabletop items to compliment the Alexandra Von Furstenberg collection of tables.
Alexandra’s collection is currently available at her eponymous store at 9001 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90069, and will soon be available at select stores across the USA.
